"A Murky Path Down Archer Avenue" is a 13-minute journey through the ghostlore and urban myths circulating around Chicago's notoriously haunted street.  This project is one in a series of short documentaries, Addovolt Explorations, focusing on locations, creators, science, and history.

Directed by Derek Quint and produced by Addovolt Productions, "A Murky Path...." is narrated by Michael Marius Massett and features music by Andre Almaraz and Michael Marius Massett.

Why Is it so hard to believe?

Hi Readers its been a while, but thank you for still being around.  One topic I'd love to talk about today is skepticism and the world of psychic phenomena. Being someone with abilities, and believe me I am not the go around and tell the world type, but when I do reveal this, I almost always find that someone out there either wants to debate me, or make me validate my beliefs to them using their criteria.

The truth is, man has grown arrogant. Just because he's managed to explain a few things using information sharing and scientific data, he feels he can almost always explain why "you're wrong and you have no unusual abilities." Which the latter is true. Having abilities, and I don't like calling them "gifts" simply because people immediately go to the "oh so ya think you're special" mindset. Having abilities actually isn't "unusual" we all have them we've just chosen to call them something else. Something that fits into a category that the scientific world wont pick apart, experiencing coincidences repeatedly, de ja vu, knowing who is calling before you answer the phone, premonition dreams are all explained with a variety of "explanations" by the skeptic.

That's insulting. Skeptics always assume you've not examined your experiences and tried to find rational explanations. They always assume we adopt the most readily fantastical reason and go with that. Far from it, in fact most people that have a psychic ability are extremely skeptical. We always try the obvious explanations first. Most of us only arrive at a alternative explanation once we've ruled out everything else. Why? It's easier to have an easy explained experience, than to accept the experience you've had is abnormal, paranormal, or even other worldly. Skeptics never believe us when we tell them this. I guess that is what makes them skeptics, they never believe anything they can't find an explanation for, even if that explanation is wrong.

Man has abilities and they always have. Since we first uttered our first grunt and walked upright we've had abilities. These were a part of our genetics, our senses were in full work mode and it allowed us to survive. We survived life by listening, smelling, tasting, observing and taking lessons from our world around us. Animals have an ability to sense things and we still see that today. Why did they retain these abilities, because unlike man, they've not the ability to share information in the same way we can at the touch of a button. They have no outside input questioning their instincts, they simply use what they have at their disposal and survive with their intuition in tact. No one told them they were wrong or evil. Early man was far more aware of his environment than we realize. He along with the animals used his finely tuned senses, above and beyond the five we know of, and he lived, he survived. We can all start to develop these extra senses again, they are still in us all. They make themselves known to us, we've just got to stop saying its a coincidence, or some other socially and academically acceptable "thing."

We've dulled our senses in time with a world filled with environmental poisons, and we have access to world wide information, making us lazy and without any introspection. We no longer rely on our senses to survive and so they have weakened. People with abilities somewhere along the way accepted them from an early age and if they didn't share them readily didnt have a world telling them they are wrong, or evil. As a child, many of us didnt know it was "different" and as such the abilities became stronger. Its only once we open up, and share that we start hearing the negatives, and shutting down. Even going to church at a young age will stifle a God given ability, because so many people shun this, in spite of the fact the Bible is filled with prophets, healers etc. In fact who was a more powerful and greater healer than Jesus?

So many contradictions. Its no wonder people are conflicted, afraid and desperately wanting "science" to explain things. Man is not the founder of all answers, he is the discoverer of the next answer only. He will learn far more if he is open to possibilities not close minded to them. When we accept how little we know, and believe what our personal experiences tell us and not an outside interpretation, we find we are learning more about who we are, why we are here and how we can better serve mankind. We all have purpose, we all owe it to ourselves to let the information we have inside of us flow. We in essence, have to lift the veil, and build a wall at the same time. Lift the veil so we may see more clearly what our own fantastic senses tell us, and build a wall to protect ourselves from external damages that dull our senses and attempt to define our abilities inaccurately so we may be less "special." It's not that we are more special, we just believe we are all special and skeptics haven't caught up to that realization yet. 

Famous Japanese Psychics

While there are many well-known psychics in the English speaking world, psychics are not limited to the West. Here are some of Japan’s most famous psychics.

Kisaburo Ueda

Born in 1871, Kisaburo developed his spiritual abilities while recovering from serious injuries following a fight with local gangsters in 1898. After his recovery he began practicing spiritual healing, and learning Chinkon-Kijin, a Japanese form of possession.

He is known as one of Japan’s greatest prophets and his Reikai-Monogatari (stories from the spirit world) is said to hold prediction until the 50th century. It is also said to have predicted the second world war, the Japanese defeat, and the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Hida Harumitsu

The son of a doctor born in 1883, infirm as a boy he dedicated himself to the study or medicine and psychology. In 1923 he felt a strong energy flowing out of his lower abdomen, which he called Chushun-Ryoku (central energy). After this experience he was able to perform miracles such as shooting a wire with an arrow with his eyes covered, reciting book pages which someone in another room read to himself and levitate himself and others.

In his final days he claimed to have seen the world 1,000 years into the future. Following this revelation, he decided to leave the world and committed suicide by fasting for 48 days. He never revealed what he saw.

Chizuko Mifune

This self-proclaimed clairvoyant lived in Kumamoto prefecture at the turn of the 20^th century. Her abilities began to show themselves at around the age of 12 when she began to hear ‘singing’ inside her head. She nurtured this internal clairvoyant music by learning to play the koto and began to develop her abilities further after her marriage in 1908 with the help of her brother in law who would help her achieve a hypnotic state.

Chizuko was introduced to a Professor of Psychology at the University of Tokyo, Dr Fukurai, in 1910. He began to conduct a series of experiments with her, mostly having her read the content of cards that she could not see. While she was successful at first, her ability to accurately read the cards declined rapidly, and she suffered significant criticism from the scientific community and the press. At around the same time she heard the news that her sister had developed psychic abilities and Chizuko is said to have responded that she now had no use in the world.

Chizuko killed herself in January 1911 by ingesting poison at the age of just 24.

Nagao Ikuko

Born in 1971, this Japanese clairvoyant is also said to have predicted many future events. When she heard about Chizuko Mifune she approached Dr Fukurai to learn the same abilities. In one experiment Dr Fukurai asked her to see what was on an undeveloped photographic plate in an envelope. After the experiment he found strange spots on the plate. He was convinced that these were the result of some unknown energy radiating from Ikuko’s body.

Ikuko died of pneumonia shortly after Chizuko in 1911.

Osanami Toshie

Born in 1863, when she was 21 years old Osanami became unable to eat, lost her period, and suffered possession at night. Following the ordeal, she gained the special ability to summon divine water into sealed bottles. This water was used to heal diseases. Osanami was also able to produce ‘spirit paintings’ and write while in a trance state, though she was not thought to have been sufficiently educated to write when not in the trace state.

Arrested as a fraud in 1924, Osanami was later declared innocent after she was able to fill a bottle with divine water in the court room under surveillance.

Hi there.

I recently had sleep paralysis for the first time and witnessed some kind of ominous dark shadow figure at the end of my bed. It just stood there watching me, and even though it was hard to make out exactly what it was, I could feel and sense with all of my being that it had nothing but evil intentions. it was the most terrifying experience of my life. All I wanted to do was get up and scream to get it away from me, but I couldn't say a word and I had no control over my muscles. My breathing was very shallow and tight. I was completely paralysed. I wasn't sure if I was dreaming or not, it seemed so real, but I was very confused and startled.

 I'm a rationalist and a very skeptical person with no previous interest in paranormal activity, but after doing some research it seemed like there was a possibility that this entity is real. So many other people from all over the world report seeing the same thing and have had very similar experiences.

So I decided to set up my video camera and leave it running whilst I slept. I really didn't expect to find anything. It was more for peace of mind as I was still very shaken up by the experience and was finding it difficult to get to sleep with the fear of having this experience again. After scanning through the footage it seemed like there was nothing out of the ordinary, but I decided to have a look at the audio signal. I noticed a little raise in the audio graph a few hours into the filming so I looked at that part of the video. My heart stopped when I observed what seemed to be some kind of ghost or entity evaporate above my bed.

I have watched the footage over and over trying to figure out some logical explanation for what could have caused the image of what seems to be a ghost, but I haven't been able to come up with a solution. I am really starting to believe that I captured the entity I saw during my paralysis on video. This terrifies me so much that I can no longer sleep in my room. I have slept in my friends room since it has happened as sleeping alone is just too scary for me to deal with right now.

Ghost Hunters Mid Season Premiere

Well if you're a die hard Ghost Hunter fan you wont have to wait for long before the Mid Season Premiere airs. Come June 12 th,  9/8 c the members of the Taps team will be back in the saddle again. Touting themselves as "Televisions #1 paranormal reality series" we can only speculate as to whether they will live up to the billing. In the past viewers as well as TPB readers have conveyed the shows have lost something in the years to follow their initial success. We've pondered the whys and what ifs, and what abouts no end to try and figure out if Ghost Hunters could improve on their failing popularity. Many of you, our loyal and most brilliant readers shared your thoughts and here's what some of you had to say..:

1. Eva ThomasDecember 7, 2012 at 7:13 AMI have noticed a huge difference in Ghost Hunters lately. For me it just does not have the zing it did in the past. It is like the zest of doing the job is a little lost, if that makes sense. 
2. Richard C RyderOctober 4, 2012 at 9:15 AM I think that the show is better without Grant so far... with that being said, I wonder who will step up and take his place. I think the shows so far this season seem to be more based on the roots of when their show started. I like what they've done lately and think that they have had some incredible finds, especially last night's show.
3. AnonymousFebruary 20, 2013 at 11:23 AM Honestly, I can't watch the show anymore. We are left with two very pompous and conceited individuals,(Steve and Jason) and the show just seems so empty. I was growing old of the show anyway, "Hey, did you hear that?" "Is anybody there?" "What was that?" etc. I've done some growing up since the show began and it seems so lame now. Grant was a class act, the genuine article, no airs or posturing, just professional investigating. I really looked up to him. Steve seems like such a sneaky opportunist and Jason is so full of himself that there is no balance between the team. And then all the new characters, they really lack personality. Yeah, I'll continue to watch "Ghost Hunters," the reruns when the show was a class act! Sorry guys, but I think  Grant was smart to leave before the show loses it's luster. All I can say is, dudes, you really should stop while your show is still afloat, you're just going to ruin it for the entire paranormal genre...

AnonymousFebruary 15, 2012 at 8:20 PM  I must say that Grant was one of my favorites and I believe due to the ridiculous guest stars, flash light tricks and Grant not wearing his wedding ring might have something to do with him leaving. I guessed who was going to be leaving, but the reasons why are still up in the air. Plus, Grants hasn't been looking too well lately. Again, it could be due to his health or home-life. I just wish he would come out and say why and get all out in the open. We love you and wish you would stay, but we understand.

SyFy's 'Haunted Collector' New Season Begins Tonight

Fans, of the SyFy show 'Haunted Collector' don't miss out on tonight's premiere at 9/8c on your SyFy cable network! 

John Zaffis and his team go into homes and buildings with reported hauntings to try and locate artifacts that may have negative or paranormal energy associated with it. Interviews, research with local historians and uncovering the history of the home or place of paranormal activity is a part of the overall investigation provided by John Zaffis and his team. Zaffis then asks the homeowners, and/or proprietors if they wish to have the artifact removed in an effort to remove the paranormal activity. Zaffis then houses the “haunted” items recovered in his museum.

Paranormal research and EVPs

EVP's Grant Wilson has explained this term many many times  on the show Ghost Hunters. Many of us have this phrase memorized. EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon, and is not heard with the naked ear but usually picked up via digital recording.

One thing I see a lot of on paranormal shows is during an investigation someone within the group will conduct what they call an EVP session and ask questions . While this is a common practice of researchers one thing that bothers me about this practice is there should be a little more responsibility on the part of the show and investigators to explain to the rest of the world the dangers or potential dangers that can be associated with doing EVP work.

Homeowners, if you feel your home has spirits, it's a good idea to let someone from the outside investigate if you feel the need. Evoking spirit responses even if you feel you have taken precautions can still invite negative in as such it can cause more damage than good.

Finding Bigfoot: Rant of the Day

If you are a reader of ours, then you no doubt know that we have issues with almost every paranormal show out there..not because we don't believe in the paranormal and all of what that entails, but good research, good investigations, credible witnesses and solid evidence are needed if the world of the paranormal can gain acceptance and understanding.

That being said, we have to keep pounding away at the shows that squash that from happening..Enter 'Finding Bigfoot' more specifically the group's self declared leader Matt Moneymaker.

If you watch the show, you will no doubt make one conclusion rather quickly, in Matt Moneymaker's mind "everything is proof of a Sasquatch." If we look at all the "proof" that has been collected on the show...and I use the term "all" loosely...and then presented it in court..well...it'd get thrown out and no doubt with a thunderous amount of uncontrolled laughter from the bench..

Matt has two enthusiastic allies in his quest to not prove Sasquatch exists..but to prove Sasquatch is "everywhere" or so we think.. Bobo Fay..while Fay isn't quite as quick to declare all things are proof of a Sasquatch he no doubt fuels the flames by being very enthused at the meager so called evidence they do claim to find.

Moneymaker's biggest ally may be fellow investigator Cliff Barackman who seems to be almost as eager to accept every noise, moan, groan, twig snap, belch, buzz, soil impression as proof positive that Bigfoot is, as stated earlier.."everrrrrrrrrrrywhere.."

Ranae Holland the only female team member, is possibly the only sound mind in the bunch. Oh we are sure she has her enemies in the world of the paranormal but honestly, she makes good sense. She never indicates what she can't explain as "proof" but merely says, "she can't explain it" and that is just being honest. If the rest of the team members were a little more logical, they'd know they'd gain more respect by taking this more scientific minded stand..good evidence will speak for itself..wild assumptions, jumping to conclusions, failure to capture or explain things using facts or even good common sense will always slide down the slippery scope of respect.

It is odd to think that those that believe in Bigfoot so wholeheartedly could actually start to make people believe less in this creatures existence..but where there is no adequate tempering of attitude and beliefs...we end up at the end of the day, just sighing and rolling our eyes in frustration.
We'd love to see Finding BigFoot vs. The Peoples Court and then let them provide the best evidence and arguments they have for why BigFoot is real..now, tell us..wouldn't you watch? Not to prove or disprove what you may or may not believe, but to give this show and its team members a better perspective of what it really takes to present the best case for their claims.. What say you?

Are there any legitimate paranormal shows out there?

Forget for a moment whether you believe there are ghosts, demons, Bigfoot, Mothman, or UFO's. Let's ask ourselves do we believe in the Paranormal shows out there that supposedly investigate these things. Afterall, many of us may have personal experiences to draw on but do we always know  whether those on television are presenting us with just the "facts?" Should we question the paranormal, or would it be more prudent to question man, and perhaps his motives?

One such hotly debated area of fakery is the now infamous SyFy original 'Ghost Hunters Live Halloween Show' of 2008. In this episode of 'Ghost Hunters' Grant Wilson appeared to have his coat tugged by unseen hands. Many have now studied the tapes and there does appear to be some suspicious things going on in the show footage. Former fans have gone so far as to not only video tape the incidents, of which there are three, but to point by point breakdown the suspicious movements of Grant Wilson's right hand at the time the tugging took place.

The allegation is simply that Wilson's coat was rigged and that his right hand was actually pulling a string each time. While many will differ in their opinions after watching the tape, one thing that  is a little confusing and that is for three random pulls on a coat, it is odd that all pulls happen on only one side of the coat, opposite of the camera's view. They all seem to pull only that one portion of the collar as well. Making the “tugs” seem, well not so random after all.

Ghost Hunters is not the only show to come under fire through the years. A&E's 'Paranormal State' has had former clients that were on the show launch an all out campaign asserting that the show, the investigators all manipulated information, their story, their home and their haunting. Chip Coffey has also been called out as an actor playing as a “psychic.” It is true that the show's resident psychic go to, is in fact listed on IMDb as an actor. In fact, Coffey has a long long resume of performing in the theater. Now this doesn't mean Coffey is a fraudulent psychic, but it does give one pause when we compile the list of research that states there may be some tomfoolery afoot.

Also topping the list of suspect episodes is Travel Channel's 'Paranormal Adventurers' touted by many as an over dramatized show fraught with assumptions, and wild theatrics by the show host Zak Bagans. Bagans, who on more than one occasion challenges entities in an attempt to draw out some activity from beyond often comes across as rude, and well, too overtly alpha male if you will. Most investigators that do investigate demonic attacks, etc will say this is the most dangerous risk one can do to provoke the unseen. Not all spirits are of the human variety and as such can cause problems for those provoking them long after the filming stops.

The real question is, with so many television networks seizing societies insatiable curiosity with the spirit realm, are we setting back legitimate research in the process? Will those that have real problems in their homes with spirit activity be able to find legitimate help? Man will have always have to struggle in each hand his desire to know, with his desire to be entertained and cash in on a popular preoccupation. Will legitimate work and investigation be able to overcome the entertainment industry to produce a good “scare” at any cost?

As told in her words, this object did not present with the regular earmarks found with most airplanes. The owner of the photograph states the object was not moving, did not make any sounds that she could remember....read on...

Dear Dawn,
I took the picture on March 4, 2007.
I forgot about it (photograph) for quite some time after. I was showing a coworker some pictures in my cell phone and he came across that picture. He said he thought it looked like a UFO.

I told him that I took that picture with my cell phone on the way back from a rock climbing competition with Sarah. The competition was in Charlotte NC.
He told me that he believes UFO's come and go near when we have an eclipse. So we looked it up and sure enough, there was an eclipse the day before on 3/3/07.
Anyway, it taken in the morning and the sun was kind of high.
I tried to send this all as one long message earlier, but the reply button had disappeared on me. That is why each little bit is a different message. Sorry about that. So let me know what you think...The part of me that believes God created us also believes His creativity didn't end here.

Wow, I guess I'd have to ask what did you observe at the time, for instance did it make any sounds before or after you took the picture? What type of flight pattern did it have and how long did you observe it in the sky? With your permission I can post it on my website and see if we can get feed back from others?

Answers from submitter:
Whatever it was, was interfering with the sun's rays making the huge vertical bright space with blue sky on either side all the way down to the horizon. The object was not moving that I can remember. It did not make noise either. I had been watching it for a few minutes as I drove and decided to pull over and take a picture. I was driving south on I-85.
The sun was on my left.
Yes you can post the picture and see if we get feedback. I think that would be neat.
I didn't observe it long after I took the picture because I got in the car again and kept driving, so my view changed as we went down the road.

Biography Channel: The Unexplained

Well folks we think we've stumbled across another show you may enjoy that deals with the oddities and mysteries of life. This show first premiered in April of 2011 on the Biography Channel. The show's taglines:

"Many Americans have encounters that defy logic and science. But are afraid to talk about it. These profound unexplained experiences are investigated here for the first time. Using mystical abilities to venture into the unknown."

We found this show compelling, as it deals with real people with real struggles and often the mysteries while not always solved, offer some answers to families via a multitude of psychic intervention, spiritual intervention and the like.   Families on the show have often gone through every conceivable means to have answers only to come up still having many questions unanswered. This is their final attempt to find answers and in many cases closure.
Missing loved ones, unexplained illnesses that the medical community have come up empty handed, etc. all just a few examples of what dilemma these families deal with as they ask for help from those with mystical abilities. This show literally picks up where man and  science fail. This is where the abilities that man can not explain are the last resort.

We don't know about you, but after a lot of complaining the past season, TPB hopes this season will be a good one for the TAPS team in spite of Grant Wilson's absence. We will be tuning in tonight with the hopes that we always have that we will be able to "see what they see" not their reaction to what "they saw." If you're a steady reader here you know we have belly ached o plenty over the fact that every apparition that has been spotted by the team in later years has not in fact been caught on camera at all. This has been due to the fact that the cameraman is forever glued to the faces of the Ghost Hunters themselves rather than any "spirits" they may have seen. So here's the questions we hope get answered..

• Will the show be worth watching without Grant Wilson?
• Will Ghost Hunters  heed their fans advice and go back to the basic premise of the show?
• Is Steve the new Grant this season?
• Will viewers actually get to see any real evidence?

This post is to address questions from our readers concerning SyFy Ghost Hunters co-founder  Grant Wilson. Apparently there seems to be some confusion, as many have asked this question in  the last couple of weeks. So let's clear this up shall we?

Answer: While Grant Wilson is involved with fund raising for Cancer charities, there are no known reports at this time stating he has cancer. Ryan Buell of  Paranormal State, has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, see:

Ghost Hunters returns September 5th

That's right my paranormal readers, Ghost Hunters new season begins September 5, Wednesday at 9/8c pm. What can we expect this season? Well if the little glimpses I've seen on the site are any indication, it seems like the show is somewhat reverting back to it's roots,....some. Touting "with Grant gone the rules have changed" the show is definitely fanning the flames of curiosity. One has to wonder exactly what rules they are referring to in the first place? 
We did notice this much, within the first seconds of the promotional season tape was the all too familiar "what the f$%^& was that?" TPB has said many times we're not a fan of the level of swearing on any of the paranormal shows, including Paranormal Adventures.  The constant "bleeping" during every episode is mind numbing and distracting. For Pete's sake, you're ghost hunters....what do you mean "what the f#$%^ was that? What do you think it was??? You're in a place reported to be haunted..go find out what it was...and say while you're at it...how about aiming the camera in the direction you heard the noise? We're not interested in your expression and reaction, we want to see what you see, assuming you see anything..

Oh well that's our tip for the day, we will be tuning in, and yes we're taking the "now that Grants gone the rules have changed" bait.  Hopefully we'll see some good changes, some actual homes and families being helped..and no more celebrities!! Your thoughts?

SyFy's 'Paranormal Witness' is back !

Paranormal Witness (Photo credit: Wikipedia)Ahhhh one of the best paranormal sources of entertainment has come back and with a bang. Last seasons episodes kept us on the edge of our seats and this season is already starting off with a bang. Syfy has several paranormal shows out there that are awesome to watch and this show is one of the best as far as TPB is concerned.
The stories are engaging, the narratives are done by the actual victims, and  the cinematic special effects make you feel like you're  watching a horror movie, but in this case the stories are supposed to be actual events.
The next episode is titled 'Brooklyn Haunting' and we know it will be awesome. Why? Because it is about the classic haunted story where a  dream house goes poltergiest on its new owners. We don't know about you but that scenario is a classic and a favorite story, and if it happens to be true..then it's even better.
Paranormal Witness airs on Wednesday night on the SyFy channel at 10/9 central. Give it a watch and let us know what you think!

If you haven’t checked out the show Haunted Highway you may be missing out. Similar in some ways to Destination Truth, Haunted Highway involves the efforts of two teams of investigators traveling around the U.S. To validate legends and claims of haunted areas, etc. The show originally started out with two paranormal investigating teams, one of which involved Jack Osbourne and Dana Workman, the other team is Fact of Fake’s Jael De Pardo and Devin Marble.

(Photo credit: Wikipedia)Jack Osbourne has since pulled out of hosting the show, (we hope temporarily) after learning he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Syfy's Haunted Highway has some interesting occurrences that happened in last nights season finale. So far the show has been interesting and enjoyable, we like the fact that it is a little more intimate involving just two investigators instead of a whole crew.

This keeps it a little more “nail biting” than the big teams that have the “safety in numbers” factor working for them. At any rate, if you missed the finale it may be worth looking up on the SyFy website. It is one of their more interesting episodes. Tell us what you think and what your favorite paranormal show is.
