EVP's Grant Wilson has explained this term many many times on the show Ghost Hunters. Many of us have this phrase memorized. EVP stands for Electronic Voice Phenomenon, and is not heard with the naked ear but usually picked up via digital recording.
One thing I see a lot of on paranormal shows is during an investigation someone within the group will conduct what they call an EVP session and ask questions . While this is a common practice of researchers one thing that bothers me about this practice is there should be a little more responsibility on the part of the show and investigators to explain to the rest of the world the dangers or potential dangers that can be associated with doing EVP work.
Homeowners, if you feel your home has spirits, it's a good idea to let someone from the outside investigate if you feel the need. Evoking spirit responses even if you feel you have taken precautions can still invite negative in as such it can cause more damage than good.

Ghost Hunters returns September 5th
Ghost Hunters (Photo credit: Wikipedia)That's right my paranormal readers, Ghost Hunters new season begins September 5, Wednesday at 9/8c pm. What can we expect this season? Well if the little glimpses I've seen on the site are any indication, it seems like the show is somewhat reverting back to it's roots,....some. Touting "with Grant gone the rules have changed" the show is definitely fanning the flames of curiosity. One has to wonder exactly what rules they are referring to in the first place?
We did notice this much, within the first seconds of the promotional season tape was the all too familiar "what the f$%^& was that?" TPB has said many times we're not a fan of the level of swearing on any of the paranormal shows, including Paranormal Adventures. The constant "bleeping" during every episode is mind numbing and distracting. For Pete's sake, you're ghost hunters....what do you mean "what the f#$%^ was that? What do you think it was??? You're in a place reported to be haunted..go find out what it was...and say while you're at it...how about aiming the camera in the direction you heard the noise? We're not interested in your expression and reaction, we want to see what you see, assuming you see anything..
Oh well that's our tip for the day, we will be tuning in, and yes we're taking the "now that Grants gone the rules have changed" bait. Hopefully we'll see some good changes, some actual homes and families being helped..and no more celebrities!! Your thoughts?

Paranormal State's Ryan Buell to appear in San Francisco March 29-April 1st

A lifelong interest in the paranormal was evident from an early age as the young Buell read every paranormal book he could get his hands on.
Hailing Sumter, South Carolina Buell reportedly has been investigating the paranormal since his teens and has since stated on his show Paranormal State that he was plagued by a demonic like spirit as a young child. Buell and other paranormal enthusiasts will be in San Francisco, at 7 pm. March 29th through April 1 at 11 pm.
It will be interesting to see if he answers any tough questions while there? If you have questions you'd love to ask Ryan Buell what would they be? Post them and we'll do our best to try and get them to him.

Grant Wilson to leave Ghost Hunters

(Photo credit: Wikipedia)While it is somewhat unclear why Grant Wilson is leaving Ghost Hunters, it comes as no surprise that someone would leave this show at some point. I have often wondered how on earth these married men can manage going on case after case, leaving behind wives and children.
Wilson did indicate that the job presented some stress which does make one wonder just what strain may have resulted from his participation on the show. I must say Grant Wilson was one of my favorites on the show.
During Wilson's time on the show, it went through some strange moments that weren't paranormal. The show did go off the beaten path for a while, and as far as TPB is concerned, the show needed to get back to basics.
The basics being, small crew, more home based investigations ie: real people, not libraries, museums, and for Pete's sake no more theaters! We expect these places to be in all possibility "haunted." To add to that list please no more celebrity ghost hunting, it's just too obvious.

Another disturbing and off putting facet of the show is the repeated "bleeps" needed to compensate for the swearing that is commonly done during investigations. I mean geesh, have some respect for the living and the dead!
TPB would cry less if some of the more verbose members of the team were saying good bye. By more verbose, we mean Amy Bruni who seems to do more talking and less listening during each investigation. Many times
Tonight's episode also struck yet another nerve with TPB, where as Investigators Amy Bruni and investigator Adam Berry were busy digging through city hall records instead of investigating ghosts.
I found this type of activity to be very unprofessional to say the least and it amazes me that some of these investigators seemingly get away with a lot of frivolous behavior and tomfoolery. I shudder to think back in the day when Brian Harnois was on the show, if Grant or Jason would have been so lenient.

Ok, I'll say it.....
Image by Qimuktis via FlickrWho thinks perhaps Paranormal Adventurers is getting a little wonky? A little goofy? I do. The last few episodes have been a little disappointing. A little too much tomfoolery going on for my taste. I used to think just looking at Zak Bagans was enough to keep me interested in the show but the last few episodes have fallen a little short of my expectations. Careful Paranormal Adventurers, this is how Ghost Hunters lost me..(like that is some great loss or something :p)

I really think they got a little tipsy on one of their recent shows and it had less to do with finding evidence of spirits than it did with just finding liquid "spirits" if you know what I mean. Get back to the business of ghost hunting fellows. We aren't paying exorbitant amounts of money to have the Travel Channel for nothing..Beyond and Back, has caught my eye. The first episode I watched of this show was awesome! Did you catch it? Its on cable tv Entertainment On Demand (I think). This show blew me away. As did a few other new shows about the paranormal, including Celebrity Nightmares, and Ghost stories. I can think of worse ways to spend my evening than these shows. Now another show that has fizzled, Finding Bigfoot, started off with a bang, starting to fizzle. Hopefully I will be wrong because good paranormal shows are getting scarce, and then well, what would I write about? Hmm?

Ghost Hunters upcoming episodes

From the video below, there is some suggestions that our friendly local neighborhood Ghost Hunters are going to actually be going a little old school, and actually conduct an investigation without a production crew. Could this be true? Well for those of us that are paranormal buffs, we say collectively "It's about time". For a long time now I have said that the GH team/show had gone too commercial. I think nothing drove it home like their Real House wives show. See: Ghost Hunters team up with Real Housewives. Needless to say, I thought the show was lame and actually took away some of the respect and credibility from the show. Hopefully this season will breathe some new perspective into the show. I'd like to see them go back to basics, less crew, less talking during an investigation, less "did you see that?" and "what was that?"...as I have stated many times before, No, I didn't see that, and no, I don't know what that was, because....the cameraman is always on the ghost hunter and never in the direction of the ghost?????!!!!!!!! Ok, lets keep our fingers crossed..it can only get better...right?

Ghost Adventurers Next airing 3/4/2011

I don't know how legit this show is, but I keep coming back for more. There may be a few arguable reasons for this, like the fact there is a certain level of "eye candy" involved, aka Zak Bagans, and lets face it.. the other two fellows aren't too shabby either. However, I digress.. and move on to possible other reasons.
The show itself is far from boring, the host of the show, and yes I have to say his name again, "Zak Bagans" does make things interesting with his very enthusiastic, if not overly dramatized narratives, and reactions, but hey, as long as he keeps wearing those tight t-shirts and doing a little flexing, who am I to judge?
My real confusion with the show is the EVP interpretations. I often am at a loss. It is a very rare occasion that I hear anything that sounds like what they claim to hear. Is it me? Is it my television? Anyone? I just don't know how "errrypt od dodadlmaina" translates to "get out of my house", or how "bleepsizt cershawboo" is "die Nick, die".
Image via WikipediaAt any rate I am still at a loss as to why Ghost Hunters gets more respect and is assigned more credibility. Its a snooze fest, and I keep hoping it will change. So far it hasn't been worth watching and I guess it is in part to the fact that "you never see anything, you never hear anything and they never really catch anything on tape", what you will see is, the hosts of the show walking around, saying they saw something, saying they heard something, and saying they "hope" they caught something on tape or digitally, leading me to tell the hubby, "wake me up if they catch something, anything, even the dreaded orb they seem to insist in all instances is "dust"...alas I am never wakened...I'd like to see GH go back to successful haunts of the past, every week and keep stirring things up than to see them go to lame places like Bubbas bar and grill, or a theater. I hate those..insane asylums, old prisons, and every day people's homes...stick with that..I just don't care if a stupid theater is haunted...especially ones shut down and not in operation,..but that is my opinion..give me yours???

Shadow people
Image via WikipediaMany haunted locations mention the presence of "shadow people". Shadow people are defined generally as spirits that present in a dark shadowy mass as opposed to a full body apparition. Shadow people prove to be quite elusive, usually reported as seen at a distance, and using darting movements that are percieved from the corner of one's eye or (peripheral vision). Easy to explain away, many paranormal investigators try to capture their image for evidentiary value.
Science has been able to explain most proposed sightings of shadow people as being distorted visual and/or brain perceptions brought on by the unique environmental circumstances of the witness. This makes it ever so important that paranormal investigators corroborate reports with film, digital images, and other various technologies that are not prone to perceptual distortions humans have.
Paranormal investigators, and demonologists etc, have suggested that many dark black masses are of the most dangerous type. Often being demonic in nature or a less than savory character when they were living. The presence of dark, "blacker than black" manifestations, especially in broad daylight are reported and considered some of the most dangerous entities to encounter.
In one episode of Ghost Hunters where as they were investigating the Moundsville Penitentiary, there was a report of a "shadow man" with a picture taken by a previous paranormal investigator Polly Gear of the Mountaineer Ghosts Paranormal Investigators. On the episode the TAPS members claimed to have debunked the photo. However, for many their attempt at recreating the photograph was inferior to the original. The original photograph is clearly darker, has more solid mass, and resembled nothing like the shadow recreated in the Ghost Hunter episode. Just because someone can come in and recreate something similar, doesn't make it a true debunking. To debunk, is to totally discredit the photo as a fake or prove that it is not a "shadow man". The photographer by the way, was female, the shadow doesn't look female in the least.

Is Someone From Beyond Trying to Tell You Something?
Image via WikipediaOften, after you lose a close friend or family member, you will go through a period where you question everything. Nothing seems fair in life, therefore you begin to question your own beliefs. Is there a God? Is the Afterlife for real? Only time and your faith can answers those questions. There are the select few who are given a glimpse of what is beyond us on earth. Some may not even notice this gift that has been given to them. Some are truly aware of what doors have been opened.A few months ago, I was watching one of my favorite paranormal television shows. I always start to think of my family members who have passed away. I wonder what they think of me, if they are proud of me... if they are even there to see me. I was all alone in my room, so I decided to play a little trick on myself. I keep an oscillating fan close to my bed because I like fresh air blowing on me. During the show, I glanced over to the fan and thought to myself... "if there is someone in here with me, how about do something... like turn off that fan". Within about 2 seconds, the fan turned off all by itself.
Was this a sign from beyond? I asked it to do it a second time, and it did not happen. Was there a glitch in the electricity or just coincidence? Had the fan's motor gotten hot and just shut off? Who knows. That question will never be answered. If you have strange occurances like this, please let us know. We would love to hear them. Soon, I will be trying different experiments to try and draw the energy of our angles to manifest in some way. I will use the same techniques that some of the paranormal investigators use. I will keep you updated.

Paranormal television spoiled by success
Image via WikipediaThere are no shortages of Paranormal shows on television today. Whether you are a fan of Sci-fi's Ghost Hunters, Travel channel's Ghost adventurers, or Discovery channels Ghost Lab, you will find plenty to keep you glued to your television set. There are many to choose from but it seems to be harder to stay interested season after season. The formula that drew you in, fades with the shows success and suddenly you find yourself turning the channel. You know the show has taken a bad turn when you start seeing "celebrity" guests ghost hunting. Especially when the celebrities happen to be a few dolled up ladies from a show about housewives. You've got to be kidding right? Say it isn't so. Increasingly rare is it to find one that keeps the original formula intact, in other words doesn't stray from what made the show a hit.
Many shows start off with humble beginnings just a few guys, a camera or two and some recorders to catch voices of the dead. You become hooked on the show at this point perhaps because a part of you can relate to the investigators. Just a couple of guys with flashlights trying to catch something tangible prowling around an old house, like so many you may have seen in your own town, that you'd just love to go snooping in.
A few season's later and you find yourself bored, maybe even a little let down? It dawns on you that you don't see a third of what the investigators claim they saw, and you can't hear half of what they claim they hear. The cameraman is following the investigator around, and the audience never gets a sight of anything in real time. You realize, you've watched a show for an hour that mostly consisted of investigators asking each other if the other "heard that". Is this a good use of your time? Furthermore, is it worth your time to watch?
The bottom line is, when the show loses it's original cast, expands and goes in different directions, and starts having "celebrity guest appearances", it's gone commercial. Then one has to question, whether anything you think you hear, or thought you saw was authentic, or manufactured for ratings. Of all the shows that are out there, Ghost Lab seems to be one that still operates on the original platform since day one. Hopefully this will always be the case.

Orbs, dust particles, insects or spirit energy?

In many instances orbs may very well be dust, insects or a dirty camera lens, and on some occasions that which has been labeled "dust" may in fact be an orb. The TAPS (Trans Atlantic Paranormal Society) members doubt it. The general consensus of many paranormal investigators is that orbs are not paranormal in nature but an occurring issue relating to the conditions the photos are taken under. Many are simply insects, water droplets, and specks of matter on camera lenses.
Should one consider other factors? Perhaps there should be a consideration given to certain circumstances involving orbs. Many argue that if orbs are simply dust, why don't they show up in every photograph? Dust is everywhere and presumably should show up in every photo, yet the odds of a photographer ever capturing an orb in a photo are pretty rare. Why is this? Why do orbs rarely present themselves in photos that are taken in homes that have no apparent paranormal activity, but are seen regularly in homes that do claim to have paranormal activity? Most are seen on these paranormal shows on television. Orbs that are discounted are taken in homes where the investigators acknowledge there is paranormal activity, yet the investigators of Ghost Hunters and others in the field ask you to discount that, and at the same time expect you to believe them when they declare a home "haunted".
The Paranormal show Ghost Adventurers gives more validity to orbs and offer explanations for why orbs should be considered as a paranormal phenomenon. The Ghost Adventurer shows sometimes overly dramatic presentation of paranormal activity, though entertaining, sometimes can come across as less than legitimate comparatively speaking. The the limited involvement of a huge camera crew and the use of gadgets a plenty make for an interesting hour of television, all the same. For those who believe, no proof is necessary, for those who do not, no proof is enough. In the final analysis, the believability of the paranormal investigators usually determines whether the evidence gathered is accepted or not.

I am one of those people. My sister and mother have also had things happen that can not be explained. Do you believe in ghosts? Do you believe that spirits walk the earth? For those who have experienced the phenomena, no one could ever prove to us otherwise. Sharing those experiences with spouses and family can be a great way to spend quality time.
